A functional resume format usually highlights the skills and qualifications, hence emphasizing the “functionality” of the applicant, or boosting how qualified an applicant is for the job he’s applying for. A functional resume format is a highly effective and efficient resume type for a lot of people who don’t have much impressive work experience like high school and college students. It gives them a chance to still show what they’ve got.
Another type of resume is the chronological resume, which focuses on the work experience of the applicant. This is the best type for people who have been working for a number of years already but don’t have too many skills gained. This type of resume is perfect for people who have been in a rut with their work lately and want a change of environment.

It doesn’t necessarily mean that they don’t have enough qualified skills to boot, but chronological resume works more if they’re more confident with their work experience, especially if they worked for a reputable company.
Knowing the proper format of a resume
Learning about different types of resumes should give you an idea on what kind you want to create, and should put you on the right track. Don’t write a functional resume just because it’s a more popular choice, and don’t write a chronological resume just because you’ve already worked for 5 different companies. If you hadn’t had a good reputation at those 5 companies, the quantity doesn’t matter.
Weigh your qualifications and know your strengths. After you’ve done that, that’s the only time you can determine which type of resume will show your best potential and even get you the job you’re applying for.
