I'm Tired and Bored at Work! What Should I Do?

Have you ever heard yourself say, “I’m bored at work”?

There are times when boredom comes when you least expect it. Usually, it comes when you’ve been working for a company for years or if you’re no longer finding interest in what you do. When this happens, you shouldn’t feed your boredom! You should find ways in order to fix this.

If you feel like this is the end of the line for you, you should take a step back, breathe and analyze the issue. What’s making you feel tired and bored at work? Maybe the reason is because you’re facing some work related issues that you haven’t been attending to. If it is, then you better face them now or else risk losing your job.

When You’re Really, Really Bored At Work, You Can…

When you find yourself in this situation, there are always solutions to be done. Maybe you find yourself uninspired. Don’t worry because that can happen, especially when you feel like your life’s one big routine. Try to break free of that. Use your break time to walk around and get some fresh air. If you can, read a book or talk with someone in your office. New ideas can come when you least expect it. What they require from you is action so they can surface.

Being bored at work can also mean that you’re overworking yourself; that all you see, speak or breathe is work. Take a break for at least 10-15 minutes. Play a game or read online articles. Add some spice to your life. Walk around if you want. Or, you can allot a few minutes to take a power nap. Maybe your mind is just pooped. Even though it’s on work mode every day, you should still cut your brain some slack.

If you feel like things aren’t going as expected, you can always talk to your direct supervisor or teammates about it. He or she might give you suggestions on how you can fix this work issue you’re facing. Sometimes, when you’re at work and bored, you might have work issues you need to let out.

It can also be that you’re plain bored because you have nothing to do. You can always raise your concerns to your direct supervisor about this. If you feel like the company doesn’t have any direction or stable goals, then that’s a different story.

Also, if you feel like there’s nothing you can do (or have done everything you can); that it’s time for you to hand in your notice for resignation and move on, make sure that you’re sure about it. Remember, this is a serious matter that needs your attention. It’s a choice you might regret if you don’t give it enough thought.

All in all, boredom is not difficult to beat. When you find yourself really, really bored at work, always remember that you will only feel worse if you don’t do something about it. In the end, you’ll find out a lot of things and even get inspired just like the first day you stepped into the office.
