DOLE to Promote Green Jobs

As a way to promote both employment needs and a sustainable and cleaner future in the country, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will hold the First Philippine Green Jobs Conference (GJC) this coming August 15 and 16, at the SMX Convention Center SM Mall of Asia Complex in the city of Pasay.

The event, having the theme of “Promoting Green Jobs and Decent Work towards Inclusive Growth”, the DOLE hopes to create an awareness – and advocacy – on leading people towards “green jobs”.

Panel speakers from different sectors (private, government, and environmental agencies) are to to discuss the importance of starting and maintaining green jobs.

A key speaker in the event is Lawrence Jeff Johnson, director of the International Labour Organization (ILO), who would speak about the many underlying benefits of green jobs.

The President of the Philippines, Benigno “Pnoy” Aquino is expected to make an appearance as well, as the keynote speaker at the conclusion of the Conference. The First Philippine GJC is also the launch point of the Green Jobs Resource Desk, to help potential – and existing – employers and employees on learning more about having a sustainable business in the country.
